We started Freda because we had lived the problem.

When we founded Tink back in 2012, we set out to build financial infrastructure for a more open financial system. Over the following decade, Tink grew to more than 700 people across 18 markets, operating under the supervision of three regulators and serving many of the world’s largest and most regulated companies.

Compliance was central to all of it. Yet while almost every other part of the company became software-driven, compliance remained manual.

And the more the business grew, the harder it became to keep up. Every new market, product and requirement added complexity and slowed decisions.

When Tink became part of Visa in 2021, we got to see many of the same challenges from a new perspective and at a global scale. The organizations were different, but the underlying problem was the same.

For a long time, we assumed this was simply the nature of compliance but AI changed our minds. For the first time, we could see a path to running compliance in a fundamentally different way.

With Freda, we are building the system we wish we’d had. We are building it for the next generation of European companies taking on the hardest problems, so that as they grow, they can preserve the speed, agility and ambition that got them there.
